Some known bugs and a look at the upcoming update! Fossil Quest dev log 03


Hello fellow fossil fans! 

We are so happy that so many people are enjoying our game! Thank you everyone who took the time to check it out and especially those who sent us feedback and bug reports, we really appreciate it so much and its incredibly helpful.

Some bugs have been found and to be honest we fixed most of them this morning! But, unfortunately, pushing a new browser build will break everyone's save games :-( With so many people playing at the moment we don't want to do that just yet. The bugs are fairly rare, mostly only happen in browser and none of them are game breaking. Here are our work arounds if you encounter any of them:

Falling off the world in a dig site

One of the dig sites doesn't have its colliders setup correctly and this means you can fall off the world on the left hand side and into the void of blue sky forever. But fear not! If this happens just close the game and resume your save game. It should load you back in at home just before you went on that last expedition so hopefully very little progress will be lost. 

Bones not letting you excavate them

This happens with a bone is overlapping very slightly with an indestructible block. This seems to be quite rare but if it happens you can just leave that bone behind and go home. The bone will respawn in another dig site so you won't have lost it forever, I promise. This will be fixed in our next update.  

Sound glitches when loading a new scene

I know this horrible when it happens, sorry :-( It is a web build issue. We are not sure if we will be able to fix this in the future but it does not happen in the downloadable version so if you hate the glitchy sound as much as me then you have that option. 


I have uploaded a new version of the downloadable build that has all these issues fixed so we recommend using that if you want a smoother experience. And now on to..

THE UPCOMING UPDATE

We are hard at work adding new features and more content for the next update. We plan to launch it next week Wednesday or Thursday depending on how the week goes. Upcoming additions include:

Shop

You need somewhere to spend all you hard earned money! You will be able to upgrade your digging tools, buy new things for your museum and upgrade your airplane so you can travel to far away dig sites.


New Location

Speaking of far away dig sites, we are adding a new location! You will be able to travel to the The Karoo in South Africa. The Karoo is a palaeontological wonderland and I am currently working on the fossils you will find there. 

More Fossils!

There will be some additional fossils to find and exhibit! In addition to some new dinos and some marine reptiles I am also starting to add some plant fossils. Prehistoric plants may seem less exciting than finding a big dinosaur skull but they are no less interesting. Some players recently asked me if I would be including plant fossils and I thought they made an excellent point so yes, plants are making an appearance :-) Can you tell what prehistoric plants these are?? 


The update will also feature some general quality of life improvements and some bug fixes. In the meantime please send us whatever feedback or ideas you have! The more we get the better we can make the game.
