WOW, this was beyond delightful!! i cannot wait to purchase the full game! I had so so much fun, thank you for sharing such a wonderful demo. It captured the fun i felt playing in the Underground from pokemon heart gold/soul silver back in the day- something that is absolutely beloved to me!!
My favorite parts are chipping away the rock and mud from the fossils AND the fact that you can actually place the bones on your large display stand yourself!! I was expecting it to just "snap" in place, and I got so excited when I realized i could just place them myself instead. The fact that this system allows you to get creative with your own poses as well is just amazing, and it makes the experience so much more tactile!! The entire game actually leans really well into giving the player a very tactile and pleasing experience.
SO cute and fun. Played at work to kill free time and it was so enjoyable. I wishlisted it on steam and am looking forward to the release so I have a new cozy game that's cute but also sciencey which i love. If I could make a suggestion I would put a grid on the flooring so rearranging is a bit easier to visualize to know what can fit where. Also would be so fun if in the future you can help out with the town, maybe helping upgrade the town or making it more touristy to help the mayor get more confidence in his town, I think that could be a cute side story!
All in all, so cute and looking forward to the full release!
We have big plans for the town that sort of align with what you are saying. The town is going to be bigger than it is in this demo and with time, as your museum improves it brings more people to the town and the whole town improves. You can also help people in the town with things if you want to but those side stories are optional :-) Thank you for playing! I've made a note of your grid suggestion so we can chat about it.
Found out about this game recently, and I've been hooked!!

I've just filled out the form, so I don't want to repeat myself, but I really love this game so far, and I hope it sees great success!! It's a shame not many people are talking about it as far as I know!
Keep up the awesome work!!
Thank you so much, that means a lot to us! Thanks for filling out the request form, it's really helpful.
You should add a clothing store and stuff to make customising the player more fun. Also, will it be available for Mac?
really like it
HOWEVER
the x for saskatchewan is placed inside manitoba, not saskatchewan
Hey Devteam!
I saw the game on opera gx launcher by pure luck!
Having a great time, found a very rare find in my 3rd digging ! I've missed the 2 first days of visit because im dumb but im really liking it ! Great concept. as said before, i guess digging can be repetive but I'm used to farm games so I dont mind but i get the point. no bugs in 4 hours of time.
Im kinda poor but I would like to donate few bucks to back up where could I do that ? Keep up the good work :)
Hi!! Thanks for playing, so glad you're enjoying it! Yeah I agree it does get a bit repetitive in the current demo, we are working hard at making more interesting and varied digging and excavation mechanics so it's not so repetitive in the full game! ah that's sweet of you but we're just happy to have you play and send feedback - that's the best type of donation ❤️
Hi!
Have been browsing itch.io for a fun little game and stumbled on this one. Loving the concept and designs! Just a question for the full game: will there be more updates/options in the character customization (gender, more colors, accessories, hair styles, etc.)
In the meantime, keep up the great work!
Hi there, yes we will probably have more options for the characters in the full game :-) thanks for playing!
Hi!
First of, excellent chill game. I've been playing a few hours now and honestly can't wait to add more dinosaurs to my collection.
I've found some bugs here and there but honestly nothing that didn't allowed me to play:
- i think days over 19 overlap with the one before? i have a few screenshots of that i that's interesting for you
- day counter overlap that open museum countdown, would be wise to place one of them somewhere else (i think the day counter is usually on the top right corner?)
- i'm a leftie and would love to play with the arrows if that's possible to add on the game engine, it doesn't seem possible with the current version
can't wait to play the next versions :)
Really glad you are enjoying it. Sorry about the bugs you've found but thanks so much for reporting them. I appreciate it!
Ah so sorry we don't have alternative controls or remapping in this demo version :-( we are planning on having some more options for this in the full game and are busy building the game with controller support too.
It'd be nice to have some bald hairstyles.
Hi, Cool! I've made a note to include some in the full game. Sorry we don't have any current demo :-(
Hey, Im playing the non downloadable version to try it out first. I have a had a bug several times: When opening the museum and fastforwarding time the people left eventually but kept talking, my persona was not to be seen. Couldn't move forward with the day. No keys worked. Had to go to follow on steam so I could close the tab and try again. However if I just let it play naturally there is no bug :D I am not your everyday gamer so for me it would be better if there'd be another way to for example move by mouse. And for me, it took me a while to figure out how the digging etc worked. So maybe a preview or a starter area to practice would be great. However: It made a wanna be gamer finally game and I am just a noob so you can be proud. Also; My inner child loves this! Lots of luck to you guys!
Hi there, oh no sorry about the bugs with the visitors :-( That sounds very annoying but thank you for letting us know. Also sorry we don't have much in the way of tutorials. Adding tutorialisation can take up a lot of time and we decided to put that time towards new features for this prototype but I know it's not a great solution to just expect people to figure it all out on their own.
For our next demo release (which will also be on Steam) and definitely for the full game, we will have a proper introduction and tutorials. We will also try to include other options for controls and we are adding controller support if that suits you better.
I'm so happy you enjoyed it despite the issues you had!! If we can turn you into a gamer then that makes me very happy XD Thanks so much for the support.
I found a bug. The scanner gives a lot of false negatives. More than once digging in places where the scanner was red I end up finding some lucky finds, or even bones.
Oh thank you for letting me know. Sorry about that!
Such a good and simple game, makes me feel like a kid again :) I'm only playing the browser version atm, but I plan on getting the DL/Steam version once the game is fully released! I adore the art style and I like that there's a bit of a story as well with the town. Really excited to see where this game goes! Everything is just visually pleasing and I LOVE the display cabinets and organizing them by theme! Its also very satisfying to complete a skeleton and pose them :)
I do have a few critiques and suggestions tho; The gameplay loop can be a bit dry, though I do believe that's because this is a demo so not much content to fully explore yet and its easy to lose momentum once you've been playing for awhile. The digging aspect isn't bad, though being movement locked while digging is a bit unfortunate. Other than that I have a fun time with the game
AH yes makes to happy to hear that you enjoy organising your lucky finds into themes!! We are expanding on this idea a bit in the full game ;-)
We totally agree with you about dig sites. It's gets boring and repetitive quite quickly so we have plans to make it more varied. We also agree 100% about the characters movement. It's very clunky at the moment when digging :-( We actually spent today working on the characters movement mechanics for the full game with the goal of making it faster and less stop/starty. Thanks for playing <3
First off, I absolutely ADORE this game. It scratches a perfect itch of a good museum-builder game that I have been looking for for the longest time. I adore the art style and the characters. I've played for about 3 hours total and haven't encountered many bugs. My only complaint is that sometimes the digs can feel a little dry. I'll go on an expedition in Montana or Canada and mine through the whole area to only end up finding one or two bones. Other than that, I really do love the game and I CANNOT wait until the full version gets released. Keep up the good work!
Hello! Thanks for such a lovely message, it's so motivating to hear you enjoyed it. I am sorry about some dig sites having very few bones :-( That is frustrating. It seems to be a bug that is happening to some people sometimes but we are struggling to recreate the issue on our end so it's been hard to fix so far.
I really want to play this. But i press arrow keys, im pressig wasd. I cant move, unfortunately.
Very strange. Can you give me a screenshot so I can see whats going on?
My only complain is that spacebar for mining should not restrict movement.
This would make the game much more dynamic. For players who feel these things, and even for those who dont pay attention, it will make the experience better for all.
Other than that, keep the great work
Hello! Quick message from the devs that if you had that unfortunate bug where you fell through the floor of your home - it's fixed now! Well, it should be :-) If it is not fixed for you, please let us know.
Despite an interesting concept and an eyecatching style, the mining is torturously slow and opening your exhibit is somewhat lame (and broke for me).
It can be fun if you turn your brain off to it though.
Hi! What do you mean by it broke? If you encountered a bug we'd like to try fix it. Sorry about that!
We agree the digging is slow and repetitive. We are changing the way it works for the full game and will be making it faster, funner (hopefully!) and more interesting. Thank you for playing and leaving feedback
The exhibition wouldn't end, all visitors left but it didn't return to the normal mode.
Well... geez thats strange.... did you try the web version or did you download it?
Its super hard to debug the web build sadly, but if you played the downloaded version then I can get your save game and look at your logs.
DWL, but unfortunately had deleted the save file.
I wanted to love the game so bad, i donated and wishlisted even but sadly now the game seems to be compeltely broken, after some time on an excavation it freezes and theres nothing to be done about it, i tried deleting all files and reinstalling but it just keeps happening so the game is unplayable in this state :( i did love the concept tho.
I would really like to fix this problem. I am so sorry you are experiencing this!! Would you be able to share more information with us over discord or email? You could email us on lasse@unsigneddouble.come or join our discord at the link on the page.
If you are willing to help that would be amazing, we would love to get to the bottom of it.
Hello :) thx for the reply! I joined the discord and sent a message in the fossil-quest-chit-chat channel :)
Just wanted to let you know this should be fixed now in the latest build we just uploaded :-)
hello! i just found this game today and its so so so so cool and so much fun its addicting! :DDD
would you possibly know if theres any way to download it on a mac?
Unfortunately not sorry! We don't have macs so it's very hard for us to build and test for mac :-(
ohhh ok yeah thank you!
Loving this so much!
My only feedback is just altering the controls! I'm playing on a laptop that doesn't have a full keyboard with a delete key, so I'm kind of stuck with the exhibits I have already placed haha. Keep up the good work!
Hi! You can use O as an an alternative to delete exhibits :-)
Loving this demo, and looking forward to when the full release is out on Steam.
I've been trying to one hundred percent the diplodocus for about three hours, but the ribcage just won't show up. Is the probability super low for that part of the skeleton or has my game become bugged?
I agree with some of the other comments that it would be nice to mine and move at the same time. Having the click to mine every time is really making my wrist act up and could be a potential accessibility issue. It also would be nice to have a counter that would tell us how many fossils or lucky finds are in the area.
Great work and looking forward to updates!
I double checked and the diplodocus should spawn in Colorado or Montana. The bone itself shouldn't be that rare... sorry that you're having issues. Might just be bad luck :-(
Did you manage to find it?
Yes i did in a separate session. I guess it really was just bad luck!
I absolutely love this demo and I'm so excited for whenever the full game comes out. I love dinosaurs and this kind of gameplay loop. I'm excited to check out Hadley's Run after I'm finished with the demo.
Some feedback:
Sometimes it felt unclear why I wasn't able to excavate a fossil, as visually the fossil didn't look like it was still under any dirt blocks.
I absolutely love all of the art in the game. I think the colors are really cohesive and the texture on the fossils looks great. Sometimes it feels like the character is almost too bright in comparison to the environment that they're in.
I am so intrigued by the characters in Follyoaks and their stories. I think watching the town evolve as the museum does will be really rewarding.
Loving the game so far but I have a few issues/suggestions! I'm using the desktop version by the way :)
1. I believe there should be some sort of number in the corner of my screen telling me how many fossils and lucky finds are left when I'm hunting for fossils. This would save SO much time and help with the issue of feeling like I'm grinding
2. I had a problem where I was on a map in that was 37x28 squares and only got one ammonite as shown below. I spent at least 10 minutes mining every square I could. I have incomplete skeletons in that can be found in that region and even if they were complete, not all of the pieces were gold. I understand this sometimes happens in real life but you have to find a balance between realism and player enjoyment
3. I don't like that I have to manually rotate my character to mine each individual square but that's just personal preference
4. There should be an option in the settings to turn on and off the screen shake when mining, I noticed my eyes were starting to hurt and this could be an accessibility issue. This should be added ASAP in my opinion
5. The presence of a tutorial should be included. On the first day I accidentally opened the museum with nothing in it because I didn't realise I had to put down the fossils first. I also didn't know I could hold the mouse button to mine instead of clicking each time until day 4. I got a little confused as to which side is left or right when building a skeleton, it took a while for me to understand the darker shade of bones goes on the darker outline. All of these things should be pointed out to the player
6. The controls feel kind of all over the place. Pressing P to manage the exhibits and then having to press F to assemble or DEL to delete it is a lot of movement on the keyboard. Using close together commonly used keys is much more comfortable. For example using Q and E to switch between exhibits so we don't have to manually click them, also using Q and E for tool selection when excavating a fossil, using Backspace to delete an exhibit, the scroll wheel to rotate an object, Tab to manage the exhibits and even Spacebar to assemble an exhibit
I'll definitely continue playing for awhile and I'll update this if I think of anything else. I'm also happy to reach out on Discord if needed :)
Awesome feedback!!
Thanks so much. Agree with you on pretty much all the points. I'll discuss all of this with the team (lol I mean the two of us!) and figure out the best ways to address these issues in the full game.
For point 2: I think that was a bug you encountered. You shouldn't have gotten just one fossil from a dig site OR that dig site should have been really small. This is our bad sorry!!
DUDE this game is AWESOME I've been needing a dinosaur game for awhile and I randomly stumbled upon this one and introduced it to ALL my friends lmao I LOVE IT please add more customization or paintng Dinos, side quests I CANT wait for the full game thank you all and love you so much for what you've created
Thank you. What a lovely message. We're hoping the full game will be packed full of content and new features and fun stuff to do. No pressure on us haha!
Diplodicus is too big to rotate, please fix
Haha its actually the museum is too small rather than the diplodocus being too big. But to make the museum bigger would've caused a bunch of issues so we had to leave it like that (for now).
In the main game you'll have a much bigger area to exhibit your bigger dinosaurs.
I get that, but like, I just want to rotate it 180 degrees, which SHOULD fit, but I have to turn it 90 degrees first. It would be nice if you could ‘rotate’ it when placing even if it wont fit if you do that,(IE-keeping it in ‘red’ mode while you preview the rotation) or something.
Oooh I see what you are saying, it would be nice if you could at least rotate it 180. Sorry about that :-(
i got stuck under the museum
Oh no sorry! This is the first I've heard of this bug. Did reloading solve it?
Unfortunately after I reloaded the game I couldn't open the museum or pressing*p* and of course I can't get out
If you were using the PC downloaded version we could take a look at your save game file and try fix the problem? It will be found here:
C:\Users\[Your user name]\AppData\LocalLow\UnsignedDouble\Fossil Quest
You can email that file to lasse@unsigneddouble.com and we will take a look ASAP.
unfortunately i am using the browser
can i reach the saves from it
Unfortunately not, I'm sorry. If you remember how/when it happened then we could try to recreate it and patch it so at least it won't happen again. But we won't be able to fix your specific save game so you can carry on, you would need to start over. I'm sorry it must be very frustrating, wish we could :-(
Hi again. Just wanted to let you know we have located this bug and fixed it and will be uploading a new build by Monday morning. Sorry again, not nice to get a game breaking bug like this.
This is fixed now. You should be able to carry on with your save game no problem. If not please let me know.
That was a pretty cool experience! Even though this demo is limited and it does get a bit repetitive, it gives a really good idea of what's coming and definitely leaves me wanting more! The visual style looks awesome, the concept is nice and I really like the different minigames you created for cleaning up or assembling fossils. It really made me going to gather all kinds of nice stuff for my museum and I can fully imagine that in the full game, when you add more variation and perhaps more challenge, this will become a really cool game! Well done! And, wishlisted, obviously :-)
A few things I want to mention:
At least in the browser version, you can delete an exhibit by pressing o :)
Thanks! Totally agree about the repetitiveness. We initially just had a couple of dinosaurs but as we added more it meant more grinding for the fossils.
For the full game, we're planning a bunch more mechanics to collect fossils as well as overhauling the locations to make them more interesting and varied. Making it more interesting/varied is one of our main design goals based on all the feedback from this demo.
We're also going to add a research and upgrade system to improve your tools and unlock different excavation sites.
Thanks for playing and leaving such useful feedback. Really appreciate it!!
this is really fun but i do think there should be more stuff to do cuz the digging can get a little repetitive after a while. but other then that 9/10
Love this game a ton! Its really fun! Although, the excevating can get really boring after a while (the part with the moss and stone). Maybe add more mini-games? I really enjoyed the puzzle mini-game! Overall it is an amazing game and I love it, but encountered a bug while playing. I had a bunch of fossils but when I went to assemble them, they did not appear. Like in the hotbar, the fossils I know I got would not appear. This happened with the lucky finds too. At first I thought I was tripping, but when I wrote down what I got, it was not my brain. Maybe this was intentional? This happened on my chromebook btw. I also couldnot figure out how to use the better quality fossils. I could not switch it out, nor would it automaticly replaced. Maybe it was teh bug again, because it would not show up in my hotbar. Besides that, it is an amazing game and I can not wait to play the full version!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I just tried resuming but everything was glitching. I still had all my fossils but I could not place because they were already placed? Nothing showed, even after I bought everything (beforehand) nothing would show. I also bought the librairy but it would not show, like it wa sblocked off as if I had just started the game. Not cool :(
Hi. I am so so sorry you are experiencing these bugs, it sounds very frustrating! This is the first time we've had this bug reported so if you are willing to send us some more information we could try figure out what's happening? A screen recording of you playing and your save game data would be really helpful if you have the time.
You could find us or discord or email it to lasse@unsigneddouble.com
Sorry again, hopefully we can figure out what's happening and fix it!
It is working now, I just had to reload the tab. Idk what kind of screenshots you want but I got a ton. Idk how to put them all together so...
I love this game! I'm a big dinosaur fan and I love paleontology. I came across this game a couple months ago and I play every now and then, but its great!
the museum guests are kinda laggy though, not sure if it was intentional
edit: the guests are a bit more smooth now, though still laggy sometimes
love this game lots! i've been playing on the browserfor some months now, and it only seems to get better. but in the recent updates i lost my save! i'm really bummed, as i'd been working on it for a while—any chance you'll release a mac version at any point so i can save my game there?
Hi there. Oh no! The last update we made was about a month ago and it did not break saves so I am wondering if maybe your browser history got wiped somehow or something else happened on your end? Either way it really sucks, so so sorry that happened.
I wish we could but unfortunately we don't own macs so its impossible for us at the moment :-(
That’s really rough losing a long-term save hurts a lot.
If it helps, I’ve seen similar issues when browser storage gets cleared (private mode, cache cleanup, extensions).
Maybe having a simple manual export/import option later could help protect players from that kind of loss. Congrats anyway !
absolutely no worries! this just gives me more of an excuse to play and build my save back up :)
Haha glad to hear it! P.S We have a update coming with fresh content early next week so that might be a good time to start over ;-)
Like a real dig, but without the backache, insect bites and unbearable heat and/or miserable damp. LoL. I hope you will add a sieve shaking mini game (with teeth and small bones) and finding coprolite would be fun (If you haven't added it already).
If the game dose well financially, consider an archeological themes sequel. The industry is finally realizing there is a real market for non-violent adult video games.
A sieve shaking mini game is a great idea!! Thanks for this, we're going to chat about it :D
There is some coprolite in already as a little lucky find but I plan on adding more in the future. Thank you so much for playing, really glad you enjoyed it!
I love how the excavation and museum mechanics feel both satisfying and cozy , digging up fossils and assembling exhibits gives a real sense of progression. Congrats !
Have you thought about adding more variety in the dig tools or layers to make the exploration even more strategic and rewarding ?
Thank you so much! Yes, we think the digging is a bit repetitive in the current demo and want to make it more interesting. We have lots of plans to expand on it for the full game :-)
From a game dev to game dev I love fossil excavation system and game in overall. Cleaning the bone yourself while you have to be careful to not damage it? Genius! Game itself is super chill and I had a lot of fun arranging the bones without a blueprint image. I could say more about the clever ideas you put in this game but this comment would be too long haha I can't wait to play a full version :D
Good luck with the development! You're doing amazing job 💪
Thank you so much for the encouragement!
i really enjoy this game! i started playing two updates ago (i think?) and i'm really enjoying all the new things that have been added (the character creator is so cute)! i really like the sound design and all the info about various dinosaurs/fossils :)
my one issue that's popped up since the last update is that i think the lucky finds are broken for me :( the first time i played this game i found a bunch of them easily, now i haven't found a single lucky find in the first two excavations (i saw your comment saying they should pop up after 50-100 blocks but the second excavation was more than 350 blocks and i still didn't find even one). maybe it's just a me issue though! anyway overall this is a lovely and very enjoyable game, i look forward to following its progress :D
Sorry about that! Do you know how many lucky finds you have? If you could let me know that would help us to track down the bug or figure out what's happening. If there is a bug we will try fix it before our next update which should be early Feb :-)
I'm really happy you like the game, thank you for playing!
it's okay, i'm still loving the game!! and yeah i started a new game so i have no lucky finds at all yet haha
That's really strange :-( we will try to recreate it on our side. Thanks for reporting it!
Fiiiine I guess I'll use Steam again XD
This is an awesome demo and I had a lot of fun with the mechanics. I really enjoy fossil mining games, so this was an absolute blast to play! I look forward to the full release!
I love this little game! It reminds me of playing Fossil Fighters Frontier on my DS when I was a kid, except more chill. I wishlisted it on Steam and I really looking forward the final version!
I've been trying to 100% the demo but I just can't find the last lucky find :( are there 24 or only 23 for now?
There are 24 lucky finds but it is possible (maybe) to soft-lock yourself if you have already collected gold fossils for all the other fossils :-( In that case no more dig-sites will appear.
Is there anything from Fossil Fighters that you really enjoyed? Any mechanics or anything that we could use as inspiration for any mechanics or features in Fossil Quest?
I'm not 100% certain about the soft-locking... I'm on my laptop on holiday so I can't be 100% sure of the logic around it but I'm somewhat sure this is how it works.
One more thing: erm... not sure to share this but if you destroy I think 50 - 100 blocks without getting a lucky find you should be guaranteed to get a lucky find when you destroy the next block. If that doesn't happen then there is a bug.
Thanks for your reply! I don't think that I'm soft-locked, I'll try the 50-100 block trick and tell you if it works.
From what I remember of Fossil Fighters I liked the surprise of discovering the shape of the fossil while excavating it. Maybe you could try layering rocks to hide the fossil a bit more? I really enjoy the three dimensional aspect of excavating in your game though!
Also you could add something visually different when you get better quality fossils, or an all silver or all gold complete dinosaur. Maybe a themed painting that you can hang in the museum or a alternative version of the dinosaur with skin? Idk, just throwing ideas here :")
Sooo I broke well over 200 blocks and no lucky find... :(
Man im so sorry! There is another restriction in place which might be affecting you. Not all the lucky finds can be found at every location. The locations and lucky finds are as follows:
Colorado:
Karoo:
Montana:
Saskatchewan:
Let me know which one you're missing and where it spawns. Perhaps that area is closed?
thank you for the list! now I know that I'm looking for the Fire Opal in Colorado
Hi! This game is a gem and I can’t wait to play it on steam in its final version.
I still have some feedback to give:
- The big problem is that there is a memory leak, the game went from 700 MB of RAM usage to 16,000 in one hour.
- During the excavation, it would be nice to be able to dig and move at the same time.
- I find it regrettable to have a button that allows us to assemble our fossils instantly. I know we don’t have to use it but I think it takes some charm from this part of the game. Maybe replace it with a percentage to see how precise we are (and automatically place the bones in the right places if we exceed certain thresholds like 95%).
- I think it will be cool to see the rarities of fossils when placing them.
- It would be nice to have an option not to pause the game when you are on another window.
- Obviously more fossils, upgrade and everything, but I know it’s in progress!
Oh no that's a horrendous memory leak!!
I actually noticed it a while ago and worked to resolve it, which I thought I did. I wonder if other people are experiencing it..
Either way, thanks for reporting the issue and I'll take a look as soon as I'm home from my short holiday. So probably in the next week.
Your other notes and feedback align with a lot of other feedback we've gotten and we've got some ideas to address it for the main game. The only issue is the pausing when you leave the browser window.. I think that's a browser constraint that might be tricky to work around. Will take a look at it anyways.
Glad you enjoyed it. We've got a rough plan of the content we're aiming for in the main game and I hope its substantial enough!!
Hi, I played your game and made a video about it. Just wanted to let you know.
Wow thank you!! That's so lovely of you. I'm away at the moment (in a place with very poor internet) but when I get home I'll give it a watch. You can also share the video on the page which might be easier to get more views :-)
Well, there is an unspoken rule about not promoting your content in other people's comment sections, but since you're offering...
We don't mind you sharing videos here. We're all trying to get our stuff noticed and its completely relevant. We need people streaming our games and you need people making games! So it's a symbiotic relationship :-)
It's not like you're sharing your own game or porn/spam links (you'd be amazed how many we have to delete!)
Thanks for making the video!
